Talking Points: Greg Biffle talks about fans

What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

1

The Huntsville (Ala.) Times recently spoke with Vancouver’s Greg Biffle about NASCAR fans.

“I skate that middle ground,” said Biffle, who is in sixth place in the Chase. “There isn’t bunch of haters out there for the (No.) 16 team. There’s a bunch of, ‘We like him, too.’ We feel like that’s a good position for us.

“That makes me feel good that there are a lot of fans that appreciate our team and what we do. It would be nice to sell as many hats and T-shirts as Dale Jr. and Tony Stewart. I understand that’s not going to happen.”

This is no government shutdown, just your simply player’s boycott.

As a result of Grambling football players boycotting practice this week and refusing to travel to play Saturday’s game at Jackson State, the homecoming at Jackson State will have to go on without a football game.

Players at Grambling are taking issue with the how the football program is being run and the school leadership.

Grambling has changed coaches twice in about two months.

Talks are continuing.

The Southern California-Notre Dame rivalry is different than most.

What the two private schools have in common is a history of great teams and great players. No other rivalry game can claim the 22 national championships, or the 13 Heisman Trophy winners.

Lately, though, the game has not lived up to its reputation.

Since Notre Dame won three straight over USC by four points from 1989-91, the game has been known more for its lopsided victories. Only seven of the past 21 games have been decided by a touchdown or less.
