LONG BEACH — Razor clam digging will be open Friday through Sunday on Long Beach Peninsula.
The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife has given final approval to six days of digging at various coastal beaches after testing indicated the clams are safe to eat.
Twin Harbors is open today through Tuesday. Copalis is open Friday and Saturday. Mocrocks is open Friday through Monday.
Low tides will be -0.6 feet at 6:57 p.m. on Friday, -0.7 feet at 7:38 p.m. on Saturday and -0.7 feet at 8:16 p.m. on Sunday.
Digging in the fall is allowed only from noon to midnight in the fall and winter.
Dan Ayres, coastal shellfish manager, recommended diggers bring a lantern, which is more effective for spotting clams than the direct beam of a flashlight.
Diggers can take 15 clams per day and must keep the first 15 dug. Each diggers’s clams must be kept in a separate container.
Diggers age 15 and older must have an applicable 2013-14 license. The least expensive option is a three-day razor clam license which costs $8.60.
The agency also has scheduled additional digging on Nov. 1 through 8 and Nov. 15 through 20 if marine toxin tests show the clams are safe to eat.
Tentative digging dates and low tides at Long Beach in November are: Nov. 2, Saturday, -0.6 feet, 6:36 p.m.; Nov. 3, Sunday, -1.1 feet, 6:16 p.m.; Nov. 4, Monday, -1.3 feet, 6:59 p.m.; Nov. 5, Tuesday, -1.3 feet, 7:45 p.m.; Nov. 15, Friday, -0.3 feet, 5:01p.m.; Nov. 16, Saturday, -0.6 feet; 5:42 p.m., and Nov. 17, Sunday, -0.7 feet, 6:20 p.m.
