A suspect in a June 4 robbery and taxicab theft has turned himself in, police said Wednesday.

Ronald Heasley, 42, surrendered to Multnomah County, Ore., sheriff’s deputies after the Crime Stoppers of Oregon program on Monday offered a reward for his arrest.

The June 4 incident occurred in downtown Portland. According to police, the driver of a Broadway Cab was accosted at 9:05 p.m. on the Morrison Street Bridge. The suspect ran up to the cab, which was stopped in traffic, jumped into the passenger seat, and began assaulting him. The cabbie got out of the car to defend himself when the assailant slid behind the wheel and drove away.

Three paying passengers in the cab got out of the back seat before the thief fled with the cab.

The cab was found in Vancouver.
