The Southwest Washington Workforce Development Council announced Tuesday it has achieved the best performance in the state as compared to other workforce councils.

As a result, the Vancouver-based nonprofit will receive a $5,000 cash grant from the Washington State Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board and the state Employment Security Department, which it will reinvest in local workforce training initiatives.

The state provides cash incentive grants and annual certificates of achievement to workforce development councils that demonstrate high performance. The Southwest Washington Workforce Development Council achieved an average of more than 110 percent of its target goals and posted the highest average performance of the state’s 12 workforce development councils.

The nonprofit oversees job training programs and helps employers recruit workers in Clark, Cowlitz and Wahkiakum counties.
