Boosters of the Vancouver Food Cooperative are trying to pre-empt an expected vote to dissolve the nonprofit company by amassing pledges of support and volunteer work.
An online survey aimed at members and friends of the downtown retail store — including any members of the public who are interested but haven’t gotten involved — is both a reality check and call to action.
“The survey is intended to assess the amount of real and immediate support,” says an email sent Tuesday to the co-op’s mailing list. Good intentions and hopefulness, the letter says, “are not sufficient.”
The co-op’s board of directors recently announced that without an infusion of shoppers, volunteerism and member dues, the store at 1002 Main St. cannot stay open. A meeting to consider closing the store and dissolving the company is set for 6 p.m. Thursday at the Fruit Valley Community Center, 3200 Fruit Valley Road.
