After a rough first day, a team from Royal Oaks Country Club in Vancouver rallied to finish third in the 86th Oregon Golf Association Team Championship tournament.
The amateur tournament was played Saturday and Sunday at The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club in Aloha, Ore.
The team of Gregg Guernsey, Tim O’Neil, Ty Chambers and Brad Karns finished 6-over par for the 36-hole tournament, 10 strokes behind the winning team from Bandon Dunes. The three best scores from each team made up the team score.
In 2012, Guernsey, Chambers and Karns were on the Royal Oaks team that won the tournament. O’Neil, who won the 2013 Oregon Senior Open, replaced Kasey Young on the Royal Oaks roster for this year’s team championship.
After shooting 11-over par on Saturday, Royal Oaks was 5-under par on Sunday and came within one stroke of second place Columbia Edgewater.A team of Steven Briggs, Matt Hartley, Grayson Karsten and Greg Feeney represented Tri-Mountain Golf Course and placed 18th among the 35 teams.
Girls race to district cross country titles
Teams from Liberty, Skyridge and Shahala won team titles during a middle school girls cross country meet on Thursday at the Harmony Sports Complex.
Races were held for girls in grades 6-8 who attend middle schools in Evergreen Public Schools, Camas and Washougal. All three races were 1.5 miles.
In the eighth-grade race, Emma Jenkins of Liberty won with a time of 8 minutes and 58 seconds. Carlee Reed of Shahala was second with a time of 9:00. Liberty won the team title.
In the seventh-grade race, Serena Smith of Shahala won with a time of 8:55. Skyridge won the team title.In the sixth-grade race, Grayce Goddard of Shahala won the in 9:33, edging Halle Jenkins of Liberty who had the same time. Shahala won the sixth-grade team title.
County bowling banquet is Oct. 27

Registration open for Thanksgiving runs
Registration is ongoing for the 2013 Clark County Turkey Trot. A fundraiser for the Clark County Food Bank, the Thanksgiving morning event takes place at Salmon Creek Park and includes 10-kilometer and 5-kilometer races.

Soccer scholarships fundraiser is Friday
Washington Timbers FC youth soccer club will hold a scholarship dinner and auction from 6:30-9:30 p.m. on Friday at 400 S. Andresen Rd., in Vancouver.
