There is a tie atop the Class 4A Greater St. Helens League volleyball standings.
And after the first round of league play concludes on Tuesday, there will still be a tie atop the 4A GSHL standings.
How’s that for a prediction?
OK, it’s not much of a prediction at all. It’s a statement of fact.
That’s because after the first four matches of league play, there is a four-way tie for first in the 4A GSHL for volleyball. Skyview, Camas, Battle Ground and Union are all knotted at 3-1.
On Tuesday, Skyview plays at Union, and Battle Ground will play at Camas. The two winners of those matches will finish the first half of league play at 4-1.
Which two teams are going to win on Tuesday? Well, you’re not getting that prediction out of me.
Other key matchups this week:
VOLLEYBALL: Mountain View faces a big week. The Thunder are 3-2 and in third place in the 3A GSHL. Mountain View meets Prairie (4-1) on Tuesday, then first-place Columbia River (4-0) on Thursday.
Ridgefield (3-0) and R.A. Long (3-0) will meet Tuesday in Longview for first place in the 2A GSHL.
GIRLS SOCCER: The first half of league play in the 4A GSHL concludes with rivals Camas (4-0-0) and Union (3-1-0) meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at McKenzie Stadium. Camas follows that game up with a home game Thursday against Skyview (3-1-0). So either by week’s end, Camas will be in control of the 4A GSHL or there will be quite a battle set up for the closing weeks of league play.
Columbia River (4-0) plays Mountain View (3-1) on Thursday at McKenzie Stadium. River is top-ranked in the state and has not allowed a goal all season.
CROSS COUNTRY: Camas hosts Union and Heritage Tuesday at Round Lake. In the boys meet, Union can lock up the 4A GSHL dual-meet title by sweeping that meet. But if Camas beats the Titans, there could be a three-way tie for the league title.
The girls meet features three 3-0 teams, although third-ranked Camas in the prohibitive favorite.
On Wednesday at Vancouver Lake, the Columbia River boys and Prairie girls look to complete 5-0 dual-meet seasons in the 3A GSHL.
FOOTBALL: The first really big football game of the fall happens at 7 p.m. Friday when top-ranked Camas meets No. 10 Union at Doc Harris Stadium.
