Ridgefield — The Multnomah County (Ore.) Board of Commissioners has approved a settlement with Ridgefield-based Conway Construction in a dispute over problems with the Morrison Bridge decking the company finished installing less than two years ago.
The four-lane drawbridge carries Morrison Street over the Willamette River in downtown Portland.
Commissioners on Thursday approved the settlement for an undisclosed sum.
In a statement, obtained Friday by The Columbian, the county said the settlement “resolves the contractor’s payment claims for additional time and work performed” on the $4.2 million bridge replacement project. However, “a portion of the settlement funds will be held in reserve pending resolution of the county’s claims” for bridge problems, according to the county.
And the settlement “does not prevent the county from seeking compensation” against Conway or others for alleged bridge decking problems, which have been reported in the media recently.
