Where they stand: With three wins, three losses and one shootout loss, the Winterhawks are fourth in the U.S. Division with seven points.
Injury/status update: Forwards Dominick Turgeon and Shane McColgan are both practicing and listed as day-to-day. Forward Paul Bittner (finger) is still week-to-week. Forward Keegan Iverson has two games left on a four-game suspension for a hit last Wednesday against Spokane.
Stats leaders: Oliver Bjorkstrand has nine goals and six assists through seven games. The 18-year-old Columbus draftee from Denmark is second in WHL goals behind Spokane’s Mitch Holmberg.
Pink the Rink: Saturday’s game at the Moda Center will be played on pink ice and money raised from special promotions will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
Booster club news: The Portland Winterhawks Booster Club has planned three community support projects. The first is to raise at least $3,000 for a holiday shopping experience with Winterhawks players for underprivileged children. Donations can be made at the booster club table at each home game.
Fort Vancouver Vipers
This week: at Bellingham 7:35 p.m. on Friday; at Tri-City, 7:35 p.m. Saturday.
Last week: Lost to Tri-City 4-0.
Next home game: Oct. 18 vs. Eugene.
Where they stand: At 0-3, the Vipers are last in the five-team Northern Pacific Hockey League.
New assistant coach: Brandon Burlingame has been hired as an assistant coach. The Boring, Ore., native played four seasons in the NPHL with the River City Jaguars between 2007 and 2011.
Quick turnaround: The Vipers will travel close to 800 miles this weekend to play at Bellingham on Friday and in Kennewick on Saturday. Between Friday’s game and Saturday’s is a drive that will take at least five hours.
