Esther Short — A fallen Clark County Sheriff’s Office K-9 is now memorialized in a stone statue. Deputy Rick Osborne, who was Kane’s handler when the dog was stabbed to death in the line of duty in 2011, said the recently completed memorial is in storage now, but plans are in the works to locate a spot to place the statue, sculpted by Mark McLean from Milwaukie, Ore. McLean previously donated to the Vancouver Police Department a sculpture of its K-9 Dakota, who was shot and killed in 2007. Osborne said the tentative plan is to have the Kane statue placed in the courtyard of the Sheriff’s Office headquarters in time for National Law Enforcement Memorial Week in May. “It’s pretty amazing to look at,” Osborne said. “I can’t even imagine how many hours (Mark) spent on it.”
