Childfind screening set

There will be free screenings for all children ages 3 to 5 years old who live within the Camas School District boundary.

The screenings, held Wednesday, will be by appointment only and include tests in hearing, vision, speech, concepts and motor development. It lasts approximately one hour.

CSD website will have new look

The new Camas School District website is expected to be up and running by Friday.

It was compromised recently by a virus, according to an e-mail sent to parents and patrons.

While the website is being restored, users are being directed to a new, but temporary CSD website that contains the most essential items, such as emergency and administrative staff contact information and details about transportation, as well as lunch menus and links to school sites.

Users who cannot find information that they are seeking on the temporary website can contact Doreen McKercher at doreen.mckercher@camas.wednet.edu or 833-5563.

Hathaway Elementary names students of the month

September students of the month have been announced at Hathaway Elementary School in Washougal.

Those selected, “have proven that they are striving to do their personal best,” said Laura Bolt, principal.

Honorees are: Wyatt Brannen (kindergarten), Aubrey Hettling (first-grade), Karina Berry (second-grade), Kailey Rhyner (third-grade), Paige Maas (fourth-grade) and Elizabeth Moreland (fifth-grade).

Skills Center opens doors to public

The next VIP tour/lunch is coming to the Clark County Skills Center on Friday, Nov. 1 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 12200 N.E. 28th St., Vancouver.

Skills Center Director Kari Duffy will take visitors on a guided tour of the facility’s programs, where they will be able to interact with student leaders, discover state-of-the-art equipment and technology, view the construction of the two new Skills Center buildings, and eat a gourmet lunch prepared in the American Culinary Federation-affiliated Skills Center Restaurant for $5.

Seats must be reserved by Friday, Oct. 25 by calling Jan Strickland at 604-1050, Ext. 2151.

Owned and operated by the 10 Clark County school districts, including Camas and Washougal, the Skills Center provides technical and professional training programs to prepare Clark County high school and college students for the workforce.

CHS sets college and career night

The Camas High School College & Career night will be held from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 26900 S.E. 15th St.

Students will be able to visit with more than 30 representatives that include technical schools, trade schools, military, community colleges and universities.

There will also be workshops/presentations on ACT/SAT, college essay writing, College 101 and understanding the basics of financial aid for college.

Parents and middle school students are also invited to attend.

Camas Parks and Rec offers youth scholarships

Youth who would like to participate in Camas Parks and Recreation programming and classes, but due to financial hardship might not be able to can find help through a locally funded sponsorship program.

Assistance is available to youth participants with financial need.

The sponsorships are available thanks to donations from local organizations including Camas-Washougal Community Chest, Camas MOMS Club, the Friends of the Camas Community Center, and the TODAY Foundation.

Fall Camas Parks and Recreation youth classes include kung fu, co-ed basketball for first- and second-graders, flag football, Music Together and Busy Bees Preschool.
