The agency reviewing a proposal to build an oil terminal at the Port of Vancouver said Wednesday the public is invited to weigh in on the controversial matter at back-to-back public meetings on Oct. 28 and 29.
The proposal by Tesoro Corp. and Savage Companies to construct an oil-by-rail facility capable of handling as much as 380,000 barrels of crude per day “is likely to have a significant adverse impact on the environment,” according to the announcement by the state Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council.
As a result, the council said, an environmental impact statement spelling out the project’s impacts must be prepared. To that end, the council will convene a public meeting from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 28, at Clark College’s Gaiser Student Center, 1933 Fort Vancouver Way. That meeting will start with an open house from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., during which the public may interact informally with company representatives and council staff.
The second public meeting is from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, also at Clark College’s Gaiser Student Center.
