Candidates, propositions will be the focus of upcoming forums

The Nov. 5 general election is right around the corner, and a handful of forums will give local residents opportunities to learn more about candidates running for office and a proposition that will be on the ballot.

o Camas Youth Advisory Council candidate forum – Monday, Oct. 14

Members of the Camas High School Youth Advisory Council will host a candidate forum Monday, Oct. 14, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Candidates for Camas City Council Position No. 2, Steve Hogan and Ken Kakuk, have been invited to participate, in addition to Camas School District- District No. 2 candidates Julie Rotz and Erika Cox.

In addition, Clark County Auditor Greg Kimsey and Commissioner Steve Stuart will present information about the Clark County Charter Freeholder elections. Fifteen freeholders will be elected to serve a one-year term, charged with making recommendations for the future of government in Clark County. More than 100 candidates are on the Nov. 5 ballot.

The event will be held at the Camas High School Theater, 26900 S.E. 15th St.

o Clark County League of Women Voters East County Candidate Forum – Wednesday, Oct. 16

This Clark County League of Women Voters event will be held Wednesday, Oct. 16, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Washougal Community Center, 1701 “C” St.

Speakers who have been invited to attend include candidates for Camas and Washougal city councils, Camas and Washougal school boards and East County Fire & Rescue commissioner.

The date of this forum was changed after originally being scheduled for Monday, Oct. 14.

o Camas-Washougal Chamber of Commerce Washougal Proposition 1 panel discussion — Thursday, Oct. 17

During its Oct. 17 luncheon event, the Camas-Washougal Chamber of Commerce will present a panel discussion regarding the upcoming City of Washougal ballot measure that proposes to change the city’s form of government from “mayor-council” to “council-manager.”
During the event held at The Fairgate Inn in Camas, there will be one group advocating for a city run by a mayor-council with a city administrator form of government, and the other group will be advocating for a city run by a council-manager form of government.
