Four first-period goals sent the Portland Winterhawks past the Spokane Chiefs, 6-4, Wednesday at the Moda Center at the Rose Quarter.
Alex Schoenborn scored twice in just over two minutes. Nicolas Petan and Oliver Bjorkstrand also netted goals in a first-period blitz that saw Portland lead 4-1 after just eight minutes.
Bjorkstrand added a second goal, his eighth of the season, during a third period power play.
Portland withstood a late rally by Spokane, which pulled within 5-4. Petan’s second goal of the night, an empty-netter with 18 seconds left, assured Spokane its first loss of the season.
The Winterhawks (3-1-0-1) head to Kelowna for games Friday and Saturday.
