Traffic on the Bridge of the Gods will experience lane closures starting this month as the span undergoes repairs, according to the Port of Cascade Locks.
The bridge, which crosses the Columbia River between Stevenson and Cascade Locks, Ore., will see alternating lane closures between 7 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. starting Oct. 16. The lane closures will happen seven days per week.
Emergency vehicles will still be allowed to use the bridge at all times.
The Port of Cascade Locks, which owns the bridge, had previously announced that complete overnight closures would begin Oct. 11. Now, those night closures will be pushed back until November, according to the port.
Weaknesses revealed during an inspection earlier this year prompted the Oregon Department of Transportation to announce a weight restriction on the bridge earlier this year. The weight limit on the Bridge of the Gods dropped from 80,000 pounds to 16,000 pounds.
Port officials hope repairs will restore weight capacity on the bridge by the end of the year or early next year.
