The Clark County Commissioners voted Tuesday night to appoint Dr. Alan Melnick as the health department’s health officer/administrator, effective Oct. 16.

Commissioners voted July 24 to consolidate two Clark County Public Health administrative positions — health officer and department director — into one position, the health officer/administrator. The consolidation comes after former Director John Wiesman left the county in April to become Washington secretary of health.

Melnick, who serves as the county health officer, was named to fill the role. The vote Tuesday night made the position change official.

Melnick wasn’t expected to take the helm until Jan. 1. But Deputy Director Marni Storey, who is currently serving as interim director, announced last month she was taking a job with Washington County. in Oregon. Her last day is Oct. 15.
