Esther Short — Dozens of Washington State University Vancouver alumni and other downtown volunteers responded to a call from Vancouver’s Downtown Association to clean up and replant. The project area was from Sixth and Broadway west to Main and up to 11th. Old plants that weren’t thriving — and weeds that were — came out, new soil and plants went in, and new bark mulch covered it all up. “It is awesome to have volunteers love their downtown and come apply their skills,” said executive director Lee Rafferty of Vancouver’s Downtown Association.
