PASCO — About 250 people turned out Tuesday in Pasco for the third of five planned hearings on a proposed coal export terminal at Longview.
Trains hauling coal from Montana and Wyoming would pass through the Tri-Cities.
Franklin County farmer Randy Mullen is president of the National Potato Council. He says the coal terminal would lead to BNSF Railway improving its tracks through the Tri-Cities — and that would benefit agriculture.
The Tri-City Herald reports that Lora Rathbone of Richland said she was concerned about how coal being shipped to China could affect climate change.
Two more hearings are planned on the scope of the environmental study for the $643 million Millennium Bulk Terminals dock — Oct. 9 in Vancouver and Oct. 17 in Tacoma.
