Fire investigators were unable to determine the cause of a fire that tore through a large home in Clark County’s Sherwood neighborhood last week.
There was too much fire damage to pinpoint where the blaze began and its ignition source, according to the Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office. Investigators, however, said the fire started on the first floor and narrowed the location down to the great room or kitchen. Damage was estimated at $707,300 for the structure and its contents.
The fire was reported just before 6 p.m. Nov. 18 by several neighbors who saw flames coming from the windows of 11619 N.E. 36th Court. The 2,998-square-foot home was engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived.
Firefighters launched an outside attack of the two-story structure because it was heavily damaged and too unstable to send firefighters inside, said Battalion Chief Brian Johnson with Fire District 6.
The fire was classified as accidental.
