Man accused of assaulting man, woman with hammer

A Battle Ground man is accused of attempting to murder two people with a hammer early today at a house in Vancouver’s Kevanna neighborhood.

Marcus A. Morrison, 30, was arrested today on suspicion of two counts of first-degree attempted murder following a several-hour manhunt.

Vancouver police responded to a report of an assault at 4:30 a.m. today at the three-bedroom house in the 4300 block of Northeast 110th Avenue.

Officers found a man and woman, both 35 years old, with injuries to their heads. An assailant whom they knew entered the residence and bashed them in the head with a hammer before fleeing the scene, police said.

Both victims were transported to an unnamed local hospital. Their names and conditions were not released today.

Detectives from the Vancouver Police Department Domestic Violence Unit are still investigating.

Deputies with Clark County Sheriff’s Office found Morrison several hours later. He was booked into Clark County Jail and will likely have a first appearance on the charges Monday in Clark County Superior Court.

The house, where the crime occurred, is owned Janet L. El Achhab and Bonnie R. Brosseau of Vancouver, but they do not appear to live there, according to Clark County property records.
