Washington logging companies may be eligible for a break in workers’ compensation premium rates as the result of work of a Logger Safety Task Force.
The task force’s new logger safety program offers financial incentives to participating manual-logging companies. A free workshop about the program will be 4 to 6 p.m. Dec. 9 at the Hood River Inn, 1108 E. Marina Way, Hood River, Ore. No pre-registration is required. Jerry Bonagofsky of the Washington Contract Loggers’ Association will be the presenter.
Participating employers could reduce workers’ compensation premium rates by 10 percent as soon as January 2014 if they enroll in December, with another 10 percent discount possible after meeting the criteria.
The task force is made up of logging industry employers and landowners in a partnership with the Department of Labor & Industries and Department of Natural Resources. The group formed this year with a goal of reducing the frequency and severity of injuries, preventing deaths and exploring options to reduce workers’ comp costs.
