In recognition of National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, Nov. 17-23, Share Vancouver will host its second annual “Hungry & Homeless in Clark County: Get the Facts” event on Tuesday.
The brown-bag event will feature Alan Hamilton, executive director of the Clark County Food Bank, and Becky Parker, Share’s assistant director for hunger response. They will discuss the increasing number of food-insecure households in Clark County, in part due to recent reductions to the Supplemental Food Assistance Program — otherwise known as food stamps — as well as ways to help hungry people in our community. Also featured will be a participant from the Clark County SNAP Challenge, who’ll describe the experience of eating on $4.50 a day.
The event is open to the public and set for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Vancouver Community Library, 901 C St. Meanwhile, Share is encouraging everyone to take part in National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week by organizing drives to collect non-perishable items such as food, toiletries, clothing, blankets, books and toys; by sponsoring a bake sale or car wash and donate the proceeds to a local shelter, or by volunteering for a any local non-profit organization.
