A 73-year-old man was arrested Tuesday morning after a more than four-hour standoff for allegedly assaulting his live-in caregiver with a knife.
Skamania County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to 122 Thorp Lane in rural Washougal about 1:30 a.m. to investigate the alleged knife assault.
When they arrived, David L. Simmons refused to come outside, according to the sheriff’s office.
Not knowing if Simmons was armed, the agency requested help from the Clark County SWAT team, which was able to safely remove Simmons from his residence.
He was taken into custody about 6 a.m., according to the sheriff’s office.
Simmons’ caregiver, Amy Mason, 30, was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center. Her condition was not available.
Skamania County Sheriff’s Office said that the incident was not related to a shooting in Vancouver on Tuesday morning.
