Four Pop Warner youth football teams from Clark County have qualified to play in regional playoff games later this month in Santa Clara, Calif.
East County Jets teams won the Greater Northwest Conference championship in the Pee Wee (ages 9-12) and Junior Pee Wee (8-11) divisions over the weekend at Parkrose High School. In the Pee Wee championship game, East County beat the Evergreen Bulldogs of Vancouver 19-13 in double overtime. In the Junior Pee Wee championship, East County beat Evergreen 14-6.
Those results mean the Jets teams qualify for the regional Division 2 tournament Nov. 22-23 in Santa Clara, Calif. The champions of those tournaments qualify for Pop Warner Super Bowl in Florida. The Evergreen Bulldogs qualify for the Division 3 regional at Santa Clara, but cannot advance to Florida.
Before heading to California, the teams will play against teams from Mid-Willamette Pop Warner of Salem, Ore., and Inland Northwest Pop Warner of Spokane at the Northwest Classic. Those games will be played on Saturday and Sunday in Camas.
The Vancouver Warriors Junior Midget team (Ages 10-13) has also qualified and is looking to raise $5,000 by the end of this week for travel.
Players are going door to door this week doing “pushups for change.” They will do one pushup for each dollar donated.

Union High School players assist hockey victory
High school hockey players from Clark County participated in games against a Seattle area select team over the weekend. Jimmy Scott of Union High School scored the first goal on Saturday to help the Winterhawks Varsity Hockey select team beat the Seattle Junior Hockey Association 18-and-under team, 4-2.
Alex Stoneham of Union also played for the WVHL select team, scoring the first goal in a 5-2 Seattle win on Sunday.
Also on Sunday, August Komplofske of Heritage High School assisted on the only goal for Team Gaustad in a 2-1 loss to Team Neely in a WVHL game.
Baseball clinic Sunday at Fort Vancouver H.S.
A baseball clinic for players in grades 1-8 will be held 1-4 p.m. on Sunday at the Fort Vancouver High School gymnasium.
The Trapper Winter Baseball Camp is led by the Fort Vancouver baseball coaching staff. Participants will get individual and group instruction in hitting and fielding, and in game situations.
Cost is $10 in advance, $20 at the door on Sunday.

Lacrosse program seeks participants
Registration is open for Valhalla Lacrosse indoor programs scheduled for January and February at Salmon Creek Indoor Sports. A winter indoor lacrosse league with four age groups will play Sunday afternoons from Jan. 5 to Feb. 23. The divisions will be for players in grades 3-4, grades 5-6, grades 7-8 and a division for high school players. Cost to play is $155.
Valhalla Lacrosse also is planning a skills clinic and a shooting clinic this winter.
Cost for those is $135, and space is limited.

CrossFit competition slated for January
A CrossFit competition featuring some of the top fitness athletes from around the Northwest is scheduled for Jan. 11-12, 2014, at the Clark County Event Center in Ridgefield.
Hosted by CrossFit Fort Vancouver, this is an invitation-only fitness competition that will include 16 men and 16 women. CrossFit Fort Vancouver has participated five times in the CrossFit Games, an international competition among individuals and teams staged annually in Southern California.
The gym’s team won the Games’ championship in 2010.
Tickets for the January competition went on sale this Nov. 15 and cost $20 for a two-day ticket. Ages 17 and younger can attend for free. Prices are $15 for members of the military.

Turkey Trot benefits county food bank
Registration for the Clark County Turkey Trot runs to benefit the Clark County Food Bank continues through Nov. 22. The event takes place at 9 a.m. on Nov. 28, Thanksgiving Day, at Salmon Creek Regional Park.
There is a 10-kilometer run, a 5-kilometer run and a 5-kilometer walk. Registration costs $25 and is limited to 1,200 people. Race organizers are also seeking volunteers to help stage the event. Those who register after today will not be guaranteed a race shirt.
