Volleyball: Prairie finally gets win over Columbia River

After both teams dropped semifinal matches, Prairie scored its first win over Columbia River to claim third-place in the 3A bi-district volleyball tournament in Auburn.

Prairie lost to Timberline 3-0, and Columbia River fell to Auburn Mountain View 3-1 in the semifinals.

Prairie, which had lost twice in league play and once in the district title match to River, beat the Chieftains in a five-set thriller to take third place. River goes to state as the No. 4 seed.

Mountain View beat Bonney Lake and Shelton in loser-out matches, but fell short of a state berth when the Thunder lost to Kennedy in the fifth-place match.

4A bi-district — Camas lost two matches Saturday at the 4A bi-district tournament and will advance to the state tournament as the No. 4 seed from District 3/4.

The Papermakers lost to Kentwood in five sets, then fell to Emerald Ridge of Puyallup in three.

In loser-out matches, Union lost to Olympia and Skyview fell to Curtis.

2A district — Ridgefield lost to Capital of Olympia in four sets in the championship match in Tumwater, sending the Spudders to state as the district’s No. 2 seed.

The Spudders reached the title match by rallying from two sets down to beat Tumwater in the semifinals.

1A district — La Center earned a trip to state for the first time since 2006 by beating Seton Catholic 3-0 in the third-place match at Castle Rock.

The Wildcats survived an early match, dispatching Tenino 3-0, and Seton defeated King’s Way 3-0 to reach the third-place match.

Woodland fell to Kalama for the fifth time this season in the district title match to go to state as the district’s No. 2 seed.
