VANThe eight-story Firstenburg Tower at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver was recently named among the top 30 most impressive hospital designs by Online Masters in Public Health, an online publication.

Design features, such as the hospital tower’s expansive lobby that doubles as a community meeting place, were among the qualities listed as architecturally impressive by the publication. The tower also includes private patient rooms with views of Mount Hood, Mount St. Helens and Portland.

The structure is named for the late Ed and Mary Firstenburg, who in 2005 donated $15 million to build the $43.7 million tower. It was the largest philanthropic gift in Clark County history. Firstenburg Tower was designed by Seattle-based architecture firm NBBJ. Its contractor was Joint Venture Hoffman-Anderson of Washington.
