A film crew working on Reese Witherspoon’s latest, the Pacific Northwest hiking saga “Wild,” has reserved some downtown Vancouver streets for filming today and on Friday, Nov. 15.

A location specialist, who did not want to share her name, said over coffee at Paul’s Restaurant on Thursday morning that simultaneous filming is underway today at several regional locations. One site is the streets right around Paul’s Restaurant — McLoughlin Boulevard and 19th Street, and both Broadway and Main in between.

“Wild” is Portland author Cheryl Strayed’s bestselling memoir of personal crisis and growth as she travels the 1,000-mile Pacific Crest Trail in the wake of her divorce and her mother’s death.

The director of the film version is Jean-Marc Vallee. Production began in Oregon in early October. The production company is Fox Searchlight.

The movie crew has secured film-set permits, blocking parking on the streets, for today until 10 p.m. and for 6 a.m. through 10 p.m. on Nov. 15, according to Stacy Donovan in the city manager’s office.

Star Reese Witherspoon has been posting photographs of her journeys in the Pacific Northwest at www.reesewitherspoon.com.
