Vancouver — Permits to cut Christmas trees in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest will be available beginning Wednesday, Nov. 13, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
Permits will be available at all ranger district offices and several commercial vendor locations, according to the forest service. The $5 permits can also be purchased at Gifford Pinchot forest headquarters, 10600 N.E. 51st Circle in Vancouver.
Buyers are allowed to cut one tree per permit. A family can purchase up to five permits per household.
Permits are valid only on Gifford Pinchot National Forest land. Cutting is prohibited, however, in designated wilderness areas, developed campgrounds, administrative sites, private or state-owned land within forest boundaries, and anywhere within 300 feet of a stream, according to the forest service. The Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument is also off limits to tree cutting.
