Lauren Rood of Camas made two saves on Monday, helping the United States defeat Canada 2-0 at the CONCACAF Women’s Under-17 Championship soccer tournament in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
The result puts the USA into a Thursday semifinal against Mexico. The winner of that match will qualify for the 2014 FIFA Women’s Under-17 World Cup. The match can be seen live at noon PST on FoxSoccer2Go.
Canada will meet host Jamaica in the other semifinal. Thursday’s winners will play Saturday for the regional title. The semifinal losers will not qualify for next year’s World Cup.
The United States went 3-0 in group play, with Rood playing in the first and third matches. Forwards Zoe Redei and Mallory Pugh scored the goals against Canada.
