Community notebook: Clark County Youth Football crowns champions

Clark County Youth Football wrapped up its 2013 season on Saturday with five championship games at District Stadium in Battle Ground.

In the Grades 2-3 game, the Cubs beat the Lightning 12-0. In the grades 4-5 game, the Bears defeated the Thunder 13-6. In the sixth-grade championship, the Panthers beat the Titans 6-0. In the seventh-grade championship, the Raiders beat the Hawks 51-13. In the eighth-grade championship, the Tigers beat the Storm 21-0.

Area Pop Warner playoff teams advance

Area Pop Warner youth football teams played Greater Northwest Conference semifinal games on Sunday at District Stadium.

In the Pee Wee Division (ages 9-12), East County defeated North County 31-0. East County will play Evergreen for the championship at 1 p.m. Sunday at Parkrose High School for the championship.

In the Junior Pee Wee Division (ages 8-11), East County defeated Vancouver Warriors No. 1 30-0 and the Evergreen Bulldogs beat the Cowlitz Colts 6-0. Next Sunday at Parkrose, Evergreen and East County play at 11 a.m. for the championship. At 9 a.m., Vancouver and Cowlitz play for third place.

Local team falls, 4-1, in prep hockey league

Team Gaustad, the Winterhawks Varsity Hockey League team with players from Clark County lost 4-1 on Sunday to Team Deadmarsh. Tristan Flint scored the only goal for the north team in the ice hockey league for metro-area high school students.

The next game for Team Gaustad is at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Winterhawks Skating Center in Beaverton.

Youth lacrosse program sign-up on Wednesday

Vancouver Youth Lacrosse will hold an in-person registration opportunity from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Burgerville restaurant at 99th Street and Highway 99 in Hazel Dell.

The registration is for the spring 2014 season for this new recreational lacrosse club. Programs include a stick-only, non-contact coed league for kids in kindergarten through second grade. There is one practice and one game each week.

For players in grades 3-4, 5-6 and 7-8 programs involve full gear and local and away games. Teams will have two practices and one game each week.
