The Portland Winterhawks ran their winning streak to 11 games with a 3-1 road win over the Spokane Chiefs on Saturday.
With 11 straight wins, the Hawks (14-3-0-1) remain atop the WHL standings with 29 points, and have won six straight on the road.
Portland registered the lone goal of the first period when Oliver Bjorkstrand scored on a 4-on-3 power play at the 13:26 mark to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead after one.
Early in the second Alex Schoenborn snuck a shot through the pads of Spokane netminder Eric Williams to give Portland a 2-0 lead, which remained the score going into the third.
Midway through the final frame Portland made it a 3-0 lead on Paul Bittner’s second goal of the season. Spokane’s Cole Wedman scored late in the third to get the Chiefs (12-6-0-0) on the board, but the Hawks shut the door from there to finish with the 3-1 victory.
Bjorkstrand’s goal tonight extended his point streak to 12 games, while Nic Petan had assists on all three goals and extended his streak to 11 games. Taylor Leier had an assist to extend his point streak to six games.
Brendan Burke was outstanding in net with 30 saves on 31 shots. Williams gave up three goals on 29 Portland shots.
The Winterhawks are back in action Wednesday when they host the Tri-City Americans at the Moda Center at 7 p.m.
