Clark County families can explore the natural world during the fall Family Field Trip Day at the Columbia Springs Environmental Education Center. The 100-acre natural area and working fish hatchery offers hands-on learning stations for kids, nature hikes and environment-inspired crafts.

2. Zombies, witches and fun
Keep Halloween going a little longer with Run2Survive, as zombies set their sights on humans in an event that will benefit the Evergreen School District Foundation. Participants choose how they want to run, as a survivor avoiding an undead horde while completing the 2 1/2 -mile course, or a zombie intent on snatching lifeline flags from the survivors. There will also be a ghouls for school kids race, and costumes are encouraged. Continuing the festivities will be the Witches Brewfest, featuring drinks by local breweries, which is open to those 21 and older. Race day registration begins at 2 p.m., with the kids race kicking off at 3 p.m.; 5 p.m. for the main race and the brewfest runs from 4 to 9 p.m.

3. Harmonica performance
Harmonica virtuoso Joe Powers will be part of a rather unusual symphony concert as he showcases his flare for the tango with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. The Portland musician has performed in a variety of music styles on his harmonica, from hip-hop to jazz, but he specializes in playing tango music. He has won prizes for his harmonica work at world competitions.
