The Clark County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office reported Friday that it will not file charges against a Camas man suspected of vandalizing 15 headstones Oct. 22 at Camas Cemetery.
Michael D. Garwood, 21, could be charged in the future, pending further investigation, however.
Garwood was arrested on suspicion of second-degree malicious mischief and 15 counts of violating laws protecting cemeteries. He was accused of vandalizing the headstone after a night of drinking with four friends.
The vandalism damaged headstones in the oldest part of the cemetery, known as the Pioneer Section, according to Camas police. Some of the headstones were broken or toppled over, police said.
