Alex Smith of Heritage struck out a bunch in just a few innings.
Patrick Thorpe of Evergreen set the tone with four strong innings.
They both were named MVPs Wednesday night at the 36th annual Southwest Washington Senior All-Star Baseball Series at Propstra Stadium. The event is a doubleheader played by the top seniors from the region.
Playing in their high school uniforms in Clark County for the last time, the “American League” all stars got the sweep, winning the first game 6-1 and taking the nightcap 9-4 with five runs in the final inning.
Thorpe threw four innings in the first game, giving up an unearned run. Josiah Malychewski of Battle Ground and Jared Price of Evergreen combined for four no-hit innings of relief in the first of two eight-inning games. Malychewski got the win and Price got the save, entering the game in the seventh with a one-run lead.
“It’s an honor, honestly,” Thorpe said of his MVP award. “I wasn’t expecting it at all. It’s crazy. I haven’t thrown for about three weeks. To throw that good against the best players in our area, it feels incredible.”
