Police officers from the Vancouver area and Special Olympics athletes are scheduled to participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run this morning.

The run is scheduled to begin today at 8 a.m. at the Clark County Courthouse, 1200 Franklin St., and will end on 170th Street near Interstate 5. The run is not expected to block traffic, though a police motorcade will be with the runners.

The event is the Special Olympics’ most notable fundraiser and public awareness campaign.

The group will carry the “Flame of Hope” in anticipation for the beginning of the games, which are scheduled for Friday at Joint Base Lewis-McChord near Lakewood.
