Fire destroyed a shop Monday afternoon in Barberton.

Firefighters were dispatched to 11709 N.E. 50th Ave. at 12:16 p.m. When the first units arrived, flames were already shooting through the roof of the 30-foot by 40-foot shop, said Fire District 6 Battalion Chief Todd Iremonger. Crews with District 6 and Vancouver Fire worked on a defensive attack, staying outside the structure.

A mobile home trailer and a couple of houses were nearby, but crews kept the blaze confined to the shop, Iremonger said. The homeowner, who lives down the street, was out shopping at the time. Fire officials closed 50th Avenue to traffic between 117th and 119th streets to fight the fire.

No one was injured in the fire, and no other structures were damaged.

The Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
