Track and field: Whitmire places second in 1A long jump

Woodland’s Eli Whitmire finished second in the long jump to be the top-placing local competitor Saturday at the Class 1A track and field state meet in Cheney.

Whitmire jumped 21 feet, 91/4 inches to finish behind Tanner Casper of Connell (22-1/2).

Other locals scoring points in Saturday’s portion of the meet included Woodland’s Bailey Glessing in the 400 meters (fifth, 51.98 seconds), La Center’s Kyle DeGraaff in the 800 (fourth, 1:59.27) and Woodland’s 400 and 1,600 relays both placed fifth.

No local girls placed in the 1A meet.
