WSU votes to limit tuition hike to 2 percent

PULLMAN (AP) — The Washington State University Board of Regents has voted to limit a fall tuition increase to 2 percent, no matter what the Legislature decides concerning the state budget.

University officials say they want to give students and their parents a degree of certainty about the cost of tuition for next year.

Students at Washington’s other four-year public colleges and universities are still unclear about what they’ll be paying next year.

WSU President Elson S. Floyd was hoping the state budget would be finished by now. He says the delay in Olympia has put higher education into a difficult situation.

The WSU Board of Regents also approved on Thursday a plan to build a 28,000-square-foot Wine Science Center at the WSU Tri-Cities campus. And they approved some small student fee increases.

WSU has its main campus in Pullman, with branches in Vancouver, Spokane and the Tri-Cities.
