Talking Points: No love this year for LaMarcus

The Columbian
Published: May 23, 2013, 5:00pm

What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

1

They love him … they love him not.

One year after earning his first All-NBA team mention, Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge was left off the list this season.

On Thursday, the league announced the All-NBA teams — headlined by first-team superstars LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Kobe Bryant — but Aldridge received 62 media votes, not enough to crack the who’s who roll unlike in 2012 when he made the All-NBA third team.

This past season, Aldridge made his second consecutive All-Star roster while putting up a career statistics (21.1 points per game as well as 9.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists — both were personal bests).

However, Aldridge’s numbers might not have been enough to overcome his team’s performance.

Only players who advanced to the postseason made the three All-NBA teams while Aldridge received the most votes of a performer who did not make the playoffs.

Still, in an odd twist, Aldridge had company on the “other players receiving votes” list and it wasn’t his Rookie of the Year teammate Damian Lillard, but rather J.J. Hickson earning a single nod.

Let those “Tim Tebow Facts” begin.

Chuck Norris — the inspiration behind those hilariously over-the-top “facts” boasting of his masculinity and overall coolness — recently proclaimed the out-of-work quarterback as a “natural leader” and “amazingly gifted” football player in a recent online column.

“He reminds me of myself when I used to compete in marital arts,” Norris wrote for www.newsbusters.org.

“I believe we have just begun to see what Tim is capable of doing as one of the best among the NFL’s (Ultimate Clutch Players). But a team must play him and let him lead as the Broncos did. No warrior can prove his worth if kept from the battlefield.”

Chuck Norris hangs Tim Tebow posters on his wall.
