Riders from Prairie and Ridgefield earned two gold medals during the Washington High School Equestrian Teams state championships.
For Prairie, Casey Kampe and Kyle Vroman won gold medals at the state meet.
Kampe was first among 15 competitors in roping. Vroman won the over fences event, which included 20 riders, and also took third in hunt seat.
The Ridgefield working fours drill team took first place, completing an unbeaten spring season. Riders were Courtney Erickson, Mckenzie Derheim, Brianna LaRoy and Brooke Killinger.
Erickson earned an individual gold medal in the saddle seat event.
The state meet took place Friday through Sunday in Moses Lake. Participants qualified for state based on results from three regular-season meets held about once a month during the spring.
Prairie’s Kendall Pedigo finished second in the dressage competition, and third in the over fences event.
The Falcons’ drill team won a silver medal. Drill team members were Alex Barber, Pedigo, Kolton Dehaan, Kiauna Johnson, Stephanie Ivarsen, Emily Giffoni, Casey Kampe, Lacey Ailshie and Lonni Knaisch.
Prairie’s Barber was the versatility reserve champion, which means she had the second-most points among riders who competed in both gaming and showmanship events.
Results for other Clark County participants from the state meet were not available in time for publication. If available, they will be published on May 28.

Lacrosse playoff today for King’s Way boys
The King’s Way boys lacrosse team hosts Skyline on Tuesday to open the Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association playoffs. The match is at 7 p.m. at King’s Way Christian High School in Vancouver.
If they win Tuesday, the Knights travel to Sammamish on Thursday to face Eastside Catholic in a 7 p.m. state quarterfinal match.
The Knights concluded their regular season Saturday with a 17-11 win over visiting Lake Washington. Jack Beall, Clayton Frank, and Evan Ramirez each scored four goals and Jeff Sanchez had four assists. Brian Prigmore scored twice, and Nathan Swift, Greg Klein, and Connor Dyehouse each scored one goal.
King’s Way recognized 10 seniors before Saturday’s match, eight of whom intend to continue playing lacrosse in college.
Beall, a Camas High senior, and fellow midfielder Frank, a Columbia River senior, were named first-team all-state. Defenseman Nick Guinett was named to the second team.
King’s Way lacrosse plays in the top division of the Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association, and includes players from around Clark County.
VLC rowers place at regional regatta
Two Vancouver Lake Crew boats captured first place during the U.S. Rowing Pacific Northwest Junior Regionals, which took place Friday through Sunday on Vancouver Lake.
In women’s lightweight singles, Corinna Niebur beat teammate Dorothy Tarnawski for first place. In men’s novice doubles, Michael Hewitt and Phillip Renton rowed to first place.
Vancouver Lake Crew did not qualify any rowers for the junior nationals. Varsity races during the regionals qualified champions to the nationals, but most of the VLC rowers this year were in novice or lightweight races.
Tyler Wilcox placed fourth in the varsity-2 singles race for boys, and sixth in varsity-2 doubles with Matthew Haisch.
The VLC girls novice eights placed fourth, but had the fastest time among Portland-area entries. The team consisted of Danielle Alder, Sydney Schiffman, Gabby McClure, Veronica Nicacio, Elizabeth Varberg, Caroline Kealoha, Gabriel White, Zoe Hill, and Trisha Patterson.
There were 25 clubs competing with 614 entrees, a total of about 1,800 high school rowers from Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. The classes of boats included one-person, two-person, four-person, and eight-person shells.
Other top finishers for Vancouver Lake Crew novice rowers included a second place in girls singles for Zoe Hill; a third place in men’s singles for Michael Hewitt; and a third place in girls doubles for Bonnie Davidson and Alexis Winnett.

Dragon boat event is Sunday
Double Fifth Dragon Boating and VLC are hosting a dragon boat event Sunday on Vancouver Lake. Both 10- and 20-person racing is planned. The event is to raise funds for a program to provide water sports at Vancouver Lake for disabled veterans.
Vancouver runners win Hazel Dell Parade race
Eric Dolezal of Vancouver finished first in Saturday’s Hazel Dell Parade Run. The 31-year-old Vancouver resident completed the 3.1-mile race in 15:29, 18 seconds in front of Josh Monda of Vancouver. Dan McElrath, 43, of Vancouver was third (17:09).
Katrina Mueller, 21, of Vancouver was the women’s champion, finishing fourth overall in 17:56.
A total of 89 runners completed the race, which followed the route of the Hazel Dell Parade of Bands. Complete results are in the Community Sports Scoreboard.
Basketball for charity
A basketball game pitting staff at Hudson’s Bay High School against Boys and Girls Club staff will take place Friday at Hudson’s Bay High School gymnasium. The event, to raise canned food and clothes for Open House Ministries and New Avenues for Youth, runs 7-9 p.m. Donations of canned food and clothes will be accepted at the door.
