It took longer than expected, but the Prairie Falcons clinched a berth to the Class 3A state softball tournament.
The Falcons were rained out Friday and again Saturday and had to return to Tacoma on Monday to finish the Class 3A bi-district tournament.
Prairie then beat Auburn Mountainview 3-2 Monday to advance to the semifinals of this tournament. That was the win that guaranteed a spot to state.
Later, Prairie lost 5-4 to Enumclaw then defeated league rival Kelso 3-1 in the third-place game Monday evening.
Prairie and Kelso will represent the Class 3A Greater St. Helens League at the 3A state tournament, which begins Friday in Lacey.In the 4A bi-district, Battle Ground was eliminated with a Monday morning loss to Bellarmine Prep. That game started on Friday and was postponed.
Meanwhile, Camas and Skyview had already won two games apiece on Friday before the rain hit the Sprinker Recreation Center. Those results put both of those teams into the Class 4A state tournament.
However, both teams had to travel back to Tacoma to finish the bi-district.
Camas beat Todd Beamer of Federal Way 8-0 in one semifinal, while Skyview lost to Emerald Ridge 8-6 in the other. Camas fell 2-1 to Emerald Ridge in the finals, while Skyview lost the third place game against Todd Beamer.
Camas and Skyview will represent the 4A GSHL at the state tournament, which begins Friday in Spokane.
