What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

1

If you’re a Seattle Seahawks fan who ever had the urge to support your favorite team while simultaneously assisting non-profit groups, then Washington Gov. Jay Inslee has answered your call.

On Friday, Inslee signed a bill that allows Washington residents to apply for Seahawks and Seattle FC Sounders vanity plates. Proceeds from the plates will help benefit a trio of statewide non-profits.

For the Seahawks fans, the license plates will feature the 12th Man flag and the Sounders FC edition will display a team scarf. Just for kicks, here are some ideas:

Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard will get little rest this offseason after his NBA Rookie of the Year campaign. Lillard already has plans to fly to New York City and represent the organization at the upcoming NBA lottery and now he adds a trip to Italy on the itinerary.

Lillard will attend the NBA Schools Cup Finals on June 1-2 in the city of Udine. The event, which began with nearly 3,000 schools in an Italy-wide tournament, culminates with a final round and Lillard will be on hand serving as an NBA ambassador. So much for waiting out the rainy days in Portland this summer.

The NHL just may have won the “Most Sensitive League” award.

On Saturday, the NHL fined the San Jose Sharks a whopping $100,000 for comments made by its general manager.

Although Doug Wilson’s defense of Raffi Torres — suspended for the rest of the playoffs for an illegal hit — seemed tasteful enough, the league still sent the team a six-figure slap to the wallet.

Who would’ve thought that free speech could cost so much?
