Skyview junior Carter Johnson has been selected as the Gatorade boys soccer player of the year for the state of Washington.
Johnson becomes the third Clark County soccer player to earn this honor in the past six seasons, joining Camas’ Nick Palodichuk (2010) and Brent Richards (2008).
A 5-foot-11, 160-pound forwar, Johnson led Skyview to 14-3-1 record this season. He was selected the MVP of the Class 4A Greater St. Helens League after scoring 26 goals and adding six assists in 18 games. In 2012, he helped lead the Storm to the 4A state championship with seven goals and two assists in five postseason matches.
The award recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character both on and off the field. Johnson maintained a 3.7 GPA. As a member of Skyview’s math and technology program, he has volunteered at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in addition to serving as a tutor and being part of community service projects through his church’s youth group.
As the state winner of this award, Johnson is now eligible to be selected the national boys soccer player of the year, which will be announced later this month.
