A 17-year-old girl was taken to the hospital after she was struck by a vehicle in the 3100 block of Falk Road, near Eleanor Roosevelt Elementary, early Wednesday morning.

The girl, whose name has not been released, was taken to an area hospital for injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.

The crash at 5:49 a.m. was first reported as a hit and run when the driver, Brian Ashard, 28, of Vancouver, left the scene, Vancouver police spokeswoman Kim Kapp said.

As officers were responding, however, Ashard called 911 from a nearby business and returned to the scene on his own accord and cooperated with investigators. No citations have been issued.

Vancouver police are continuing their investigation.
