A local Master Gardeners group this week will help plant the “Welcome to Washington” sign that greets northbound Interstate 5 travelers in Vancouver.

The landscaped sign has rotated different images into the display over the years. This year’s design is a steelhead surrounded by mulch. Last year, the group arranged flowers and other plants in the design of an apple.

The gardeners group will plant the new sign at 9 a.m. Saturday with the help of the Washington State Department of Transportation. Volunteers will plot out and place edging earlier in the week.
