The public is invited to honor the lives of law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty in 2012 at the annual Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony on Thursday.
Held at 11 a.m. in the courtyard of the Clark County Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St., the ceremony honors the 120 officers killed in the line of duty nationwide during 2012. The local event is part of nationally recognized Police Week, wherein Washington, D.C., and communities around the country commemorate members of law enforcement who died on the job.
One officer from Washington will be remembered: Washington State Patrol Trooper Tony Vian Radulescu, who died on Feb. 23, 2012. Radulescu was shot and killed while making a traffic stop on a pickup truck on state Highway 16 at Anderson Hill Road, in Gorst. The suspect committed suicide before police could make an arrest.
The hourlong ceremony will include the posting of the colors, 21-gun salute and the Portland Police Highland Guard Bagpipers. Members of area law enforcement will attend and Clark County Prosecuting Attorney Tony Golik will address the attendees.
