Camas City Council approves subdivision

The Camas City Council has approved the second phase of a subdivision that will eventually be the site of more than 120 homes.

The green light was given to the final plat of Summit at Columbia Vista Phase 2, which is located north of Northwest 16th Avenue and Northwest Klickitat Street, on the western side of Prune Hill. The 9.94 acre plat will include 34 single-family lots.

The first of four phases of Summit at Columbia Vista, which included 50 lots, was approved by the City Council in 2007.

Construction on the second phase is expected to begin soon.

“This is considered a major subdivision within the city of Camas,” said Community Development Director Phil Bourquin. “I have been assured by the developer that you will see a number of building permits resulting from this plat being recorded this summer.”

In the city’s 2013 budget message, indications were given that residential construction could see an upswing this year.

“In the residential arena, we now expect that about 120 permits will be issued in 2013,” the document states. “This contrasts with 74 and 70 in low prior years. Major subdivisions on the northeast and west sides of Camas will see new home construction.”

Mayor Scott Higgins said it’s a good sign for the local economy.

“It’s good to see signs of growth and things starting to happen in the community,” he said. “I think it’s been a little while since we’ve done much plat recording.”
