A 38-year-old man appeared Monday in Clark County Superior Court on accusations he robbed the Grand Central Fred Meyer store in Vancouver and stabbed a security guard on Saturday.
Ryan C. Shook of Vancouver was held on $150,000 bail. He faces charges of first-degree assault and first-degree robbery at his arraignment Friday.
The 22-year-old victim, security guard Aaron Grimme, was stabbed in the shoulder and arm with a six-inch knife. He was transported to Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center, and treated and released the same day.
Shook is accused of shoplifting beer at the store at 2500 Columbia House Boulevard. When Grimme confronted him, Shook allegedly pulled a knife, stabbed Grimme, and ran.
Vancouver police were called to the scene at about 4:35 p.m. and apprehended Shook near the store. He was booked into the Clark County Jail on suspicion of first-degree robbery and assault.
Shook has an extensive criminal history, including previous thefts and burglaries, failure to appear for court hearings and bail jumping.
Court records indicate Shook is homeless and used to live in Kennewick. However, on Monday, his court-appointed attorney, Ed Dunkerly, said that Shook lives at a residence on East 26th Street. The court documents also indicate he has been unemployed for about a year.
