Happy Mother’s Day!

I had 2.30 inches here in Salmon Creek; Murphy Dennis, near Clark County Rifles, 5.92 inches; Claudia Chiasson, Carson, 5.81 inches; Tyler Mode, Battle Ground, 3.08 inches, and from his Minnehaha station, 2.66 inches; Judy Darke, Felida, 2.17 inches; Bob Starr, Cougar, 10.28 inches; Phil Delany, Dole Valley, 8.50 inches; Robin Ruzek, Lakeshore, 2.11 inches; Pete Conrad near Tukes Mountain, 3.31 inches; Merle Moore, two miles west of Yacolt, 4.08 inches; Dave Campbell, one mile west of Heisson, 2.78 inches; Sandy Nesvick, east Vancouver, 3.40 inches; Jim Knoll, Five Corners, 3.79 inches; Dan Hein, Camas, 4.30 inches; Larry Lebsack, Hazel Dell, 2.56 inches; Bill Sobolewski, Livingston Mountain, 6.12 inches; Dave Campbell, one mile west of Heisson, 3.52 inches; and Ellen Smart, Ridgefield, 1.90 inches.
Surprisingly, several observers had above-average rainfall for April while others had less. Generally in the foothills and east of Vancouver, rainfall amounts were higher. Bob Starr, Dan Hein and Jim Knoll all had above-average rainfall.
Meanwhile, back in the present day, our warm ridge of high pressure is leaving, moving eastward. We will have a little rain today and maybe Monday, then the rest of the week will be typical for May, with highs near normal in the upper 60s to near 70 degrees. That will be accompanied by some cloudy periods, chances of showers and also some sunny periods, so it won’t be all that bad.
Sorry that Mother’s Day is damp, but at least most of the heavy rainfall is staying up in northern Washington and British Columbia. What was the day like last year? It was hot, 88 degrees! And the year before? Well, it was chilly and very wet, a high of only 58 degrees and over a half-inch of rain — yes, May 2011 was cloudy and on the damp side.
