The Ridgefield School District broke ground Thursday on a project that will build roughly $49 million worth of new facilities.

The first part of the project will involve the renovation of the Ridgefield High School stadium. That will includes refinishing the track, installing artificial turf and modifying the stadium so it falls in line with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The actual stadium renovation is scheduled to begin Monday. It will be completed before the beginning of the next school year.

Overall, the district’s plan calls for building a new multipurpose facility at Ridgefield High School, as well as new buildings for South Ridge Elementary School and Union Ridge Elementary/View Ridge Middle School.

The school district expects that work to be completed by the end of the 2013-2014 school year.
